What is the Thyroid and its function in the body?
It’s butterfly-shaped gland in your throat. It has a huge control over many different functions of the body. For instance, it controls your heartbeat, GI tract and biofeedback mechanisms of the hormones to name a few. It is SO important to take care of this part of the body.

Too many toxins and not enough nutrients can cause potential thyroid problems.” Our food is much less nutritious and more glutinous now than it was 40 years ago. If you take a combination of our nutrient-deficient diets, toxins, and pollutants in the air, you get a recipe for an unhealthy thyroid.

What are the symptoms of having thyroid problems?
There are many! You may be consistently cold, gain weight, unable to lose weight, brain fog, stress, anxiety, depression, loss of libido, loss of energy and loss of your overall zest for life.

Thyroid problems are often misdiagnosed. Dr. Stephen Lewis runs tests on the blood work of a patient by the TSA (Thyroid Stimulated Hormone). This is a scale from 1-4.5. Anything over a 3 should be looked at.

Who is most affected, what age, gender, etc.?
It used to be ages 40 and up that were mainly affected by this. Nowadays, teenagers and up are coming in seeking treatment for thyroid problems. The issue is only getting worse!

What are the solutions?
Nutrition: Cut out the sugars from your diet. Grains are also high glycemic. Don’t be afraid of eating good fats. Go organic as much as you can. Finding a diet that fits you is the key.
Protein, good fat, and probiotics can drastically change the way you feel mentally.
